The History of the Canton Fair: China's "First Exhibition" for Foreign Trade

The Canton Fair, officially the China Import and Export Fair, was founded in 1957 and is held annually in Guangzhou in spring and autumn, boasting a history spanning over 60 years. As China's oldest, highest-level, largest, and most comprehensive international trade fair, the Canton Fair is hailed as the "barometer of China's foreign trade" and the "first exhibition." It has witnessed China's remarkable journey from a planned economy to a market economy, and from a closed and semi-closed economy to full openness. From its initial participation of 13 foreign trade companies to the current gathering of tens of thousands of enterprises, the Canton Fair has become a vital bridge connecting global buyers and suppliers, promoting Made in China to the world.
